Processes
Campfire Printing Press supports a wide range of traditional and contemporary printmaking practices. Our robust collection of presses, tools, and materials is designed to meet the needs of artists working across multiple processes.
Beyond the equipment, Campfire is guided by the combined decades of experience of Angee Lennard and Colin Palombi. Their deep expertise in intaglio, relief, screen, and monoprinting comes from years of personal practice, teaching, and close collaboration with artists to bring ambitious projects to life.
In addition to the core processes, Campfire Printing Press also supports a variety of print-adjacent practices, including cyanotypes, book arts, comics, zines, and mixed-media.
Intaglio Printmaking
Intaglio is a family of printmaking processes in which an image is created by incising or etching marks into a metal plate. To print, the plate is run through the press under high pressure to pull the ink from the grooves. Campfire supports the full range of intaglio processes such as etching, drypoint, aquatint, and mezzotint. Our 40” x 72” Takach press allows artists to print at any scale.
Monoprinting
Monoprinting is an open-ended process that uses inks, stencils, brayers, and other simple tools to creates one-of-a-kind prints. It’s an especially inviting process for beginners and painters. Because the image is created fresh each time, monoprinting encourages experimentation and spontaneity. While variations or “ghost prints” may be pulled, each print remains unique.
Relief Printmaking
Relief printing is a process in which the raised surface of a block, typically wood or linoleum, carries the ink, while the carved-away areas remain unprinted. It is known for its bold marks, strong contrast, and graphic clarity and is one of the most accessible and versatile forms of printmaking.
Screenprinting
Our 4’x6’ vacuum table allows artists to screenprint projects at any scale. For smaller projects, we can easily add hinges to our general work tables. We provide emulsion and we have a full range of water-based inks for paper and fabric on hand for $1/ounce.
