Everyone’s welcome to join us in the studio
We do things a little differently at Campfire Printing Press. Our print sessions blend the freedom of an open studio with the level of support you would expect from a class. Instead of following a predetermined lesson plan, you’ll work at your own pace on your own projects, with expert printmakers present to offer guidance, demonstrations, and hands-on assistance as needed. It’s a space designed for curiosity, exploration, and growth, where printers of all experience levels learn from us, as well as each other.
Registration is ongoing, with new folks able to join in at any time. Request a reservation so that we can ensure the equipment you need will be available for you.
Print Sessions are available in a few varieties:
Community print session
Individual print session
Independent print session
No experience is necessary to join Community or Individual print sessions.

Community Sessions are a great entry point for first-time printers and those looking to make art alongside others.
Offered most Wednesday evenings, printers can come for a single session to run a few prints or return weekly to tackle a large or ongoing project.
These sessions include access to all shared equipment, tools, and materials, plus additional hand tools and supplies to encourage experimentation and learning.

Community sessions welcome anyone with a print project looking for guided support.
The ongoing and communal nature of Community Sessions allows artists to work at their own pace, and to receive as much or as little guidance as necessary. We are on hand to facilitate creative and technical exploration.
Artists can come for a single session to run a few prints, or return week after week to tackle a large or ongoing project.

Individual Print Sessions
Individual sessions are booked around your schedule. We provide hands-on support throughout the print session, adapted to the needs of the project and the goals of the printer. Printers work at their own pace, and we are on hand to demonstrate techniques, troubleshoot, and share insights in real time.
In some cases, this means that we are on deck to provide individualized project-driven instruction. First-time printers are welcome!
In other cases, this means that we are “clean hands”, “racking prints”, or on call for trouble-shooting or other hands-on assistance.
Printers can expect to work independently at times.

Supported sessions are great for:
Anyone printing at Campfire for the first time;
New and experienced printers alike who would like to learn a new process; and
Large-scale projects that benefit from an extra set of hands.

Supported print sessions offer a space for experimentation, new learning, and ambitious projects. We are able to provide hands-on support throughout the full print session, adapted to the needs of the project and the goals of the artist.

Independent Print Sessions
Independent sessions are reserved for experienced printers with Campfire certification.
Certification may be offered for specific equipment or process. Printers should expect to attend a Community Session or Individual Session to explore a new process or use equipment they are not familiar with.

Requires certification: Everyone new to Campfire Printing Press starts with either supported sessions or community sessions.
Certification is offered when:
One is generally acclimated to and comfortable in the studio;
One consistently demonstrates safe and clean printmaking habits;
We are confident that the individual is able to reliably work independently.

We are always on hand for questions and troubleshooting (and celebrating when new prints come off the press), but are not providing hands-on help or teaching new processes.

Our equipment is irreplaceable: Certification is always at our discretion and may be revoked at any time.

Ink, Paper, & Digital Printing
Bring your own inks or use Campfire inks for $1 to $3/ounce.
Bring your own film positives, or print onsite for $1/linear inch of film + 5¢/square inch of ink.
We do not allow the use of plastisol or solvent-based inks.
Printing paper is not provided.

Campfire Punch Cards
Attend seven print sessions and your eighth visit will be on us! All varieties of print sessions earn one punch. The complimentary session can be redeemed for any type of print session, including a supported print session.
Punch cards do not expire, and cannot be used in conjunction with our pre-paid print package.
Six-Session Print Package
Pre-paid print packages are a great option if you:
Need routine around your studio practice;
Want to turn print sessions into your own custom six-week class;
Have a project that will require multiple sessions; or
Are looking to purchase studio time for a special printmaker in your life.
We can work with you to pace your project or learn goals across six Community Print Sessions.
Valid for six months from first purchase and cannot be used in conjunction with our frequent printer punch cards.
Services
For the printer who has their own hinges, but no darkroom or washout booth, we offer screen reclaiming and exposure:
Screen exposure (image up to 10x16”): $45 per screen
Screen reclaiming: $20 per screen
Screen reclaiming and exposure: $60 per screen
