Yoonshin Park approaches the book as a conceptual space and a sculptural object to literally grapple with. For example, her artist book from the series “How (Not) to Read” consists of pages that are only four inches tall yet over four feet wide. Its tendril-like pages flop, twist, knot, and sway, often resembling a vine more than a publication.

The vision for this workshop grew out of Yoonshin’s offhand comment during a studio visit that “anything can be a book.” The Book as Container builds on this notion by exploring how attention to sequencing, manipulation, and form (line, color, texture, etc.) creates narrative.

This experimental workshop explores the artists' book through folding, sequencing, and sculptural construction. Beginning with simple folded forms and progressing to sewn and bound structures, we will learn a range of artists' book techniques. The workshop encourages experimentation with materials, form, and narrative, suggesting how the book can function as both an intimate object and a container. Open to participants with or without bookmaking experience, the workshop invites curiosity and play.

Guest artist workshops are a curated series that invites contemporary artists to share their practice. Workshop includes an artist talk and a hands-on project. Topics range from technical printmaking skills to the bigger ideas printmaking can carry, reflecting our interest in the medium as craft, tool, and mode of expression.
